It seems that 2024 will begin with a shortage of NVIDIA graphics cards. This comes just as the market has slowly started to recover from the massive shortages that occurred a few years ago.
The difference this time is not related to cryptocurrencies triggering shortages. Instead, it could be due to NVIDIA shifting its focus away from the gaming market and towards more lucrative markets.
Various reports suggest that the supply of NVIDIA graphics cards in the market is starting to diminish. According to Taiwan’s MyDrivers website, it’s reported that in Q4 2023, stocks of many NVIDIA graphics card models have gradually depleted.
Although the specific generation is not mentioned, it is highly likely referring to the latest generation of graphics cards, the 4000 series. Not long ago, there were reports of shortages in the Asia-Pacific region.
Now, the shortage seems to have spread to Europe and the United States. With diminishing stock and increasing prices, it’s possible that the prices of previous generations may also move upward in the near future.
While not explicitly explained why this is happening, various sources predict it could be because NVIDIA is more focused on selling chips to data centers than to gamers.
Indeed, this approach is more profitable for NVIDIA, and it’s a strategic move on their part. However, it could potentially result in shortages for the GeForce series, affecting gamers. The hope is that this shortage won’t lead to a significant price increase, similar to the crypto-related shortage a few years ago.
